Recruiting requirements for candidates for the TSU Career Path Project

The recruiting, selection and training process of candidates is specifically designed within the framework of the operational readiness requirements for the employment of security members. This implies specifically selected and equipped individuals, with unique characteristics who are trained to the highest standards to execute security related tasks which cannot be done by means of conventional security members. TSU is an ever-growing company tapping into the market segment in ensuring constant new, existing and innovative ideas, shaping the future of all who is willing to partake in our dynamic vision in creating a safe and secure environment where all can experience a sense of freedom and peace of mind.

The program is designed to grow and shape the candidate into a formidable professional security specialist. The training program will cover all aspects of security training, ranging from Static Security training, Tactical training to Executive Protection training.

The candidate will be registered on an NQF level 3 and with our broad-based training methodology and a variety of learnership programs, the career path program will advance you to an NQF level 5. TSU is internationally accredited which affords you the privileged of international recognition.

Aim

To ensure consistency in decision making with reference to the recruiting and training standards for members at the basic level in compliance with internationally accepted norms.

Scope

This policy contains decisions and instruction with reference to:

  • The identification and recruiting of suitable individuals to undergo the Selection Process and Training Course.
  • Pre-requisites for entry onto and progress through the Selection Process and Training Course.
  • Re-entry requirements for candidates onto the Selection Process and Training Course.
  • Re-entry of already qualified security members.

Experience

To apply for the Selection Process, a person must fall into one of the following categories:

  • Functional security members employed under the Code of conduct of PSiRA Act, 2001 (act no. 56 of 2001) with a minimum of E Grade qualification.
  • Security Industry members acting in a support function.
  • Members from the Private and Corporate sector in possession of a PSiRA Grade E qualification.
  • Members from outside the Security Environment in possession of a PSiRA Grade E qualification.

To commence with the Training Course, the candidate must:

  • Successfully complete the Recruitment and Selection Process.
  • Agreed to and signed a contract to remain in the TSU Group of Companies as an operational and functional member for five (5) years after completion of the Training Program.

Age

Members of the following categories must be in the age group 18 – 25 years (not yet 26 years of age on 1 January of the year in which the Training Program commences):

  • Full time functional security member who have attended any Training Institution.
  • Members from outside the security environment.

Medical

Must be medically fit and willing to undergo medical evaluation. Medically fit classification from a registered medical practitioner without any life threatening illnesses or illnesses which could threaten the safety of fellow colleagues.

Psychometrical Evaluation

  • Cognitive potential of at least category 2.
  • Accepted personality profile.

Physical Capability

A high standard of physically ability is expected of all candidates. In order to ensure that candidates can be physically developed to a operational standard, they must at the time be able to perform the following physical exercises in PT dress (the member is to pass all the tests):

  • 2.4 kilometer run in 18 minutes
  • 5 dead hang pull-ups
  • 63 sit-ups
  • 32 push-ups
  • 10 shuttle runs (25m) within 70 seconds
  • Have the ability to handle him/herself in water

Citizenship, Language, Discipline

  • Citizenship - The potential candidate has to be a RSA citizen. Whether the member became a citizen through neutralization or other process is not important.
  • Language Ability - Potential candidates are to be able to speak, read and write English. Conversing in other languages is regarded as important, but is not a pre-requisite.
  • Discipline - The potential candidate must not have a criminal record. Must not be declared unfit to possess a firearm or be subjected to a Section 102 investigation in terms of the Firearms Control Act 2000 (60/2000).

Other Requirements

  • Academic Qualifications - Potential candidates must at least have a Grade 12 / Standard 10 or N3 qualification with 2 languages of which 1 must be English. Candidates must provide proof of qualification during Recruitment Process.
  • Personal Interview - All potential candidates will be subjected to a personal interview.
  • Driver’s License - Be in possession of a valid code AEB (08) driver’s license.
  • Be willing to attend and participate in the prescribed recruitment and selection phase of the Career Path Program.

LENGTH OF COURSE AND COSTS

The Career Path Program will be presented in Four Phases in the Pretoria and surrounding areas. The program will be presented over a time period of fourteen (14) months.

At present, this training opportunity is only available in Pretoria /Johannesburg, area but applications are not limited to the Gauteng area.

The Career Path Project will enable us to source the suitable candidate to partake in the dynamic and career building path. Each Phase will be presented over a two (2) month period that will include Theory and Practical exercises. On completion of phases 2 to 4 the candidate will be introduced to Security Related Operational Functions over a period of two (2) months within the TSU Group of Companies.
