Steven Lochner – Director TSU Protection Services Namibia
Steven finished his service with the SA Defence Force as instructor and troop sergeant with one of the special service battalions, in 1982. His SADF service included hostile environment deployment.
He completed the SA Police S.W.A.T course.
He holds a black belt in martial arts and practiced in different systems of combat sports. During years of participation he acquired champion status and medals in different sport combat arts. He was appointed the SA representative to the “International Vale Tudo Council” (Brazil), in 2001. Until currently he is the only Mixed Martial Arts instructor in Africa who has had a student that fought an opponent who became UFC world champion. One of his former students moved abroad and became the holder of x3 international MMA titles.
He used to be in control of a nightclub and entertainment protection unit in SA. Through a period of about 15 years, he was responsible for security at special events and nightclubs. He survived an assassination attempt during which he was shot a couple of times, and survived through the grace of God alone. Today he sees this, and the fact that he was also stabbed, seriously wounded by an explosives device and the many physical street altercations he took part in and observed, as good practical experience without trying to be vain about it. He sees it in a positive light, and as a wonderful opportunity that was afforded him. This experience is invaluable and came in good stead when developing courses in realistic self-protection concepts. He founded NEVPA (Nightclub and Entertainment Venue Protection Alliance), through which he amalgamated bouncer and special events security outfits believed to be clear of drugs and organised crime influence.
His training in the private tactical and security related environment, led to him training with colleagues from the local special forces environment, as well as instructors from different foreign countries.
He is well-versed in the training and handling of patrol dogs. He has many years of practical experience in the K9 environment.
He is the author of the CQS (Close Quarter Survival) course that specialises in survival of attacks within the 0-5m radius. This course is popular with law enforcement, security professionals and civilians alike. He has been active in the Executive Protection environment as CPO, Team leader and Detail leader since the mid 90’s. His clients included mostly corporate executives, but also some of the world’s most well-known celebrities of the time.
